Valentine’s Day: Treats for the Tots!

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

Our good buddy Ethan loved his new truck.

The month of January was a busy one for The Carter Nedley Foundation.  We recruited two new members to our Board of Directors, we met with the Board to plan our schedule of events for the year, and we received our letter from the IRS granting us 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status (more on that later).

But with a new month — February — comes a favorite holiday.  And on Valentine’s Day, we didn’t want our friends at The Cleveland Clinic to forget how much we love them.

Lisa, ever the master candy maker, molded chocolates in heart and teddy-bear shapes.  She then wrapped each chocolate individually, and decorated them with pink ribbons and glittery heart stickers.

Jason then filled a duffle bag with the chocolates and headed for the Clinic — but not before making an unscheduled stop at an area toy store!

Upon arrival at the Clinic, Jason also bought a few packs of parking vouchers.   He passed out the chocolates and parking vouchers to the families in the pediatric-oncology inpatient unit.  He then let each child in the unit pick a toy from the duffle bag.  The families and Clinic staff all were very grateful for these gestures.

Best wishes for a Happy Valentine’s Day from The Carter Nedley Foundation.

We’re Going the Distance!

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Last year, The Carter Nedley Foundation was well-represented at the CureSearch Walk and Light the Night.

We’ll be back at each of those wonderful events this year, too.  But to continue to raise awareness of the need for more private sources of research funding for pediatric cancer and to spread the word of our good works, we’re going to go the extra mile. (Like, literally.)

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve joined The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon as a Charity Partner.

Additional details will be forthcoming, but, in the meantime, we’d love you to consider joining us on the course.  The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, May 15.  You can click here to register for the marathon, half-marathon (join Jason!), the 10k, and the 5k.

And if you register, remember to enter one of the following “Charity Codes”:

1) “2011CNF” for the marathon and half-marathon; or

2) “CNFTRACK” for the 10k and 5k.

Using the Charity Code for the marathon and half-marathon also is good for discounts of $10 and $5, respectively.

Please let us know, also, if you plan to participate.  We’d like to recognize everyone who wants to run, walk, volunteer, or just plain show up to cheer in honor of our son.
