The Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

CNF Board members Michelle Miller and Gregg Gorzelle joined us at the Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk.

It was an amazing day for The Carter Nedley Foundation at the second annual Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk, held last Saturday at Wade Oval on University Circle.

The Walk raised more than $49,000 for the Children’s Oncology Group, the worldwide network of physicians, nurses, and scientists whose collaboration, research, and care have turned childhood cancer from a disease thought virtually incurable to nearly 80 percent curable.

Our team, “Carter’s Crew,” contributed more than $2,200, earning us a spot among the walk’s top five teams!

We also registered 34 new potential donors for the Gift of Life bone-marrow donor registry.

Grandma Karlene and our friend Ellen Lotz register some new potential marrow donors at the "Carter's Crew" tent.

Thanks to Gregg Gorzelle, Michelle Miller, and Laura Navarro, three of our incredible Board members, for their support of our efforts.

Thanks, also, to everyone who came to walk for “Carter’s Crew” or to help set up, tear down, join the registry, or just to plain support us: Grandma KarleneKimberley Gillan-ShafronEllen LotzCheryl MillerJim, Katie and Nick SorensonLarry WesbecherTerry and Lorna WalshJessica Webster; and anyone else whose name we may have forgotten.

One set of special thanks go to our friends at Menorah Park and  The Cleveland Museum of Natural History for their support of our fundraising efforts.

Finally, a second set of special thanks go to Steve Crowley, who chaired the Walk (and whose team, “Team Olivia,” was the Walk’s top fundraiser, with more than $8,600), and to Azalea Candelaria, National Director of Field Management at CureSearch, for their many hours of hard work organizing this incredible event.  We look forward to participating for many years to come.
