Bone Marrow Registry Drive at The Cleveland Clinic

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

One component of the mission of The Carter Nedley Foundation is to advocate for issues relevant to the treatment of pediatric cancer.

We believe the best way to fulfill this component of our mission is to promote and to sponsor drives for blood donation and marrow-donor registration.

We’ve been particularly strong advocates for marrow-donor registration.  Last December we volunteered at the Got Swabbed?” drive in Beachwood.  Then, last month, we partnered with Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation to register more potential donors at the Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk.

Our next drive comes right on the heels of the CureSearch Walk, and promises to be our largest yet. We’re proud to announce that we’re partnering with the Group of Aspiring Leaders (GOAL), an organization of young professionals at The Cleveland Clinic, for a four-day marrow-donor registration drive this week on the Clinic campus.

Dates and locations are as follows:

Monday, July 25 — Cleveland Clinic H Cafeteria, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesday, July 26 — Crile (A) Building Lobby, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wednesday, July 27 — Glickman (Q) Building Lobby, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Thursday, July 28 — Taussig (R) Building Lobby, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Joining the Gift of Life registry is quick, painless (just a few cheek swabs), and free.  Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or if you would like to join the registry but are unable to attend.

Please consider stopping at our table at one of these locations.  You may be able to help save the life of another in need.

UPDATE: We registered nearly 160 new potential donors, making the drive a tremendous success!

Thanks to everyone who helped to organize or to staff the events, including (but not limited to): Kristin Jones, Nehemiah Smith, Jenna Hundorfean, Amanda Maggiotto, Danielle Ringler, Katie Stackhouse, Vince Cruz, Keren Glinert, Brian Lewis, Jennifer Kanaga, and Michelle Miller.  And thanks, as always, to Shayne Pilpel from Gift of Life.

Tinis for the Tinies – A Huge Success!

Friday, July 1st, 2011

To the more than sixty in attendance at Olivor Twist for ‘Tinis for the Tinies and to the many others who supported the event by purchasing tickets for the Package Raffle or the Grid Game:

We worked extremely hard to make ‘Tinis for the Tinies a quality event, and your generosity made it one of our most successful yet.

Three of the lovely ladies in attendance smile for our camera.

We raised approximately $3,000 to purchase toys and entertainment for children hospitalized for cancer treatment; food, fuel and parking for their families; and corpus for our endowment, which will provide continuing support for research into treatments for childhood cancer.

Thanks, also, to what seems like an endless list of prize donors, especially Lori Benseler, Mary Ellen Miller and Lynn Oplinger, for their remarkable generosity.

Special thanks to Todd Strauss and to the staff at Olivor Twist for sharing their incredible menu with us and for outstanding service.

Finally, special thanks to our Board of Directors — Sherry Gavanditti, Gregg Gorzelle, Michelle Miller, and Laura Navarro — for their many hours of help.
