The 2012 Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

Last year The Carter Nedley Foundation was well-represented at the second Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk.

We finished as one of the walk’s top five fundraising teams – contributing more than $2,200 to the total of nearly $51,000 – and registered more than 30 new potential bone-marrow donors for the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation.

For those of you who don’t know, CureSearch (known, also, as CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation) raises private research funds for the Children’s Oncology Group, a worldwide network of more than 5,000 physicians, nurses, and scientists whose collaboration, research and care have turned childhood cancer from a disease thought virtually incurable to nearly 80 percent curable.

CNF Board members Michelle Miller and Gregg Gorzelle joined us at last year's Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk.

Currently, more than two-thirds of CureSearch’s budget is derived from Federal grants.  However, Congress is considering a significant cut — perhaps as much as ten percent — to current levels of funding, of which childhood cancers already receive less than three percent.  So, to keep clinical trials open, increased funding from private sources is needed.

And The Carter Nedley Foundation is ready to help.

We are proud to announce that we again are participating in The Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk, scheduled for the morning of Saturday, September 29 on Wade Oval at University Circle.

Please click here to access our team page, where you can join “Carter’s Crew” either live at the event or as a “Virtual Walker” (which means you can participate without having to attend).  You can click on the CureSearch Walk logo above, also, to reach the “Carter’s Crew” team page. Registration is just $10.

The Carter Nedley Foundation is proud to announce, also, that it is making a separate gift to CureSearch in the amount of $1,500.

Finally, we again will be registering potential new donors for the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, an associate registry for The National Marrow Donor Program.  Joining the registry is free, and requires only a painless cheek swab.

We hope to see you at this year’s Northeast Ohio CureSearch Walk.
